Latine

Latine (pronounced lah-TEE-neh) is a gender-neutral way to describe people of Latin American origin or descent, used in place of the masculine 'Latino' or feminine 'Latina.' It swaps the gendered -o or -a ending for -e, a vowel that already carries neutral meaning in Spanish and can be spoken easily. Many people prefer it to 'Latinx' because 'Latinx' can be awkward to pronounce in Spanish. Latine is favored by some queer and non-binary people of Latin American heritage who want a term that honors both their language and their gender identity. Its use is a matter of personal preference, and many still prefer Latino, Latina, Latinx, or Hispanic.
