Latine

Latine (pronounced lah-TEE-neh) is a gender-neutral way to describe people of Latin American origin or descent, used in place of the masculine 'Latino' or feminine 'Latina.' It swaps the gendered -o or -a ending for -e, a vowel that is already gender-neutral in Spanish and easy to say. Many people prefer it to 'Latinx' because 'Latinx' can be awkward to pronounce in Spanish. Latine is favored by some queer and non-binary people of Latin American heritage who want a term that honors both their language and their gender identity. Its use is a matter of personal preference, and many still prefer Latino, Latina, Latinx, or Hispanic.
