Milk (Movie)

Milk is a 2008 American biographical drama directed by Gus Van Sant and written by Dustin Lance Black. It follows Harvey Milk, the gay rights activist who in 1977 became the first openly gay man elected to major public office in California when he won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. The film covers his years organizing in the Castro, his campaigns, his fight against the anti-gay Briggs Initiative, and his 1978 assassination alongside Mayor George Moscone. Sean Penn won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the title role, and Black won for Best Original Screenplay. The cast includes Josh Brolin, Emile Hirsch, James Franco, and Diego Luna.
