It covers what each person wants, hard and soft limits, health and safety considerations, experience levels, safewords, and aftercare. Thorough negotiation is treated as a foundation of ethical kink, because it makes informed, enthusiastic consent possible and lowers the risk of physical or emotional harm. It can be a quick check-in for established partners who already know each other well, or a longer, detailed discussion for new partners or more intense scenes. The care put into negotiation directly shapes how safe and satisfying the encounter turns out to be.
