Platonic Attraction

Platonic attraction is the pull toward close friendship or companionship with someone, felt separately from romantic or sexual attraction. Naming it as its own kind of attraction is common in aromantic and asexual communities, where the split-attraction model treats emotional, romantic, and sexual desire as distinct threads that can point in different directions. For many people, a deep platonic connection can be just as central as a romantic partnership. One relationship structure built around this is the queerplatonic relationship, a committed bond that goes beyond what most people mean by friendship without following the usual romantic script. The term reflects a broader effort to describe intimacy that ordinary language often flattens into either "just friends" or "dating."
