Platonic Life Partnership

A platonic life partnership, sometimes shortened to PLP, is a relationship in which two people treat each other as their primary partner while leaving romance and sex out of it. Partners may share a home, finances, major life goals, and even the raising of children, much like spouses do, but the bond is built on deep friendship and commitment rather than romantic attraction. The idea has drawn attention as people question the assumption that a romantic couple must be the center of every adult life. It resonates with many aromantic and asexual people, though anyone can form one. Writer Rhaina Cohen's 2024 book The Other Significant Others explored real-life platonic partners and helped bring language to a bond that long lacked a clear name.
