Relationship Anarchy

Relationship anarchy is an approach to relationships that rejects fixed hierarchies and lets each connection be defined by the people in it rather than by social rules.

Relationship anarchy, often shortened to RA, applies anarchist ideas to how we connect with others. It rejects the assumption that romantic or sexual bonds automatically outrank friendships, or that love is a scarce resource that must be rationed to one partner. Instead, each relationship is shaped by the desires, agreements, and ongoing consent of the people involved, without a built in ranking of primary or secondary. Swedish activist Andie Nordgren gave the idea its clearest form in a short manifesto published in the mid 2000s. RA overlaps with polyamory but is distinct: it centers autonomy and questions relationship labels rather than simply allowing more than one partner.
