Serosorting

Serosorting is the practice of making sexual decisions based on HIV status, such as choosing partners believed to share your status or adjusting condom use accordingly. The term became common among gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men as an informal way to lower HIV risk. Its effectiveness is limited because it depends on partners knowing and honestly sharing their status, and a recent negative test does not rule out early infection. Public health researchers note serosorting can reduce risk in some situations but is far less reliable than condoms or PrEP. As biomedical prevention has grown, related terms have appeared, including "biomed matching" when both partners use PrEP or treatment as prevention.
