Serving

Serving is a piece of drag and ballroom slang for delivering something with full commitment and undeniable style. You hear it in phrases like serving looks, serving face, or serving realness, where the word frames presentation as a craft worth doing at the highest level. The term grew out of Black and Latinx ballroom culture, where competitors were judged on how completely they embodied a category. To be serving is to command attention and give people something worth admiring rather than simply to show up. It has since spread into wider pop culture and everyday queer conversation, often shortened simply to serve.
