Slave / Master
Slave and Master are titles for the two roles in a consensual total power exchange relationship, where one partner surrenders authority to the other.
Slave and Master are titles used within consensual BDSM and leather relationships to describe a total power exchange (TPE) dynamic, in which one partner, the slave, voluntarily hands a high degree of control over their life to the other, the Master or Owner. Unlike a scene-only Dominant/submissive arrangement, TPE usually extends beyond the bedroom into everyday life, following terms set through detailed negotiation. These relationships rest on explicit consent, trust, and ongoing communication, and they bear no relation to actual historical slavery. The leather community has built ethical frameworks, mentorship traditions, contracts, and community structures around Master/slave dynamics. Titles are capitalized by convention to reflect the roles, and either party can end the arrangement.
