Slut-Shame

Slut-shaming is criticizing or stigmatizing someone for real or assumed sexual behavior that others judge as excessive or improper.

Slut-shaming is the practice of criticizing, mocking, humiliating, or harassing a person, usually a woman, girl, femme, or LGBTQ+ person, for real or perceived sexual behavior seen as too much or improper. It rests on a double standard that punishes women and queer people for the same behavior that is often excused or praised in straight men. Slut-shaming can show up as bullying, gossip, and victim-blaming, including the idea that someone's clothing or sexual history invites assault. Feminist and LGBTQ+ activists have challenged it directly, notably through the SlutWalk movement, and health educators like Planned Parenthood frame it as a form of sexual control that harms mental health and safety.
