Sort Of

Sort Of is a Canadian comedy-drama series co-created by Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo, which premiered in 2021 on CBC and streamed internationally on HBO Max. Baig stars as Sabi Mehboob, a gender-fluid, queer Pakistani-Canadian millennial in Toronto who nannies for a family, works at a bar, and navigates identity, family expectations, love, and loss. Sabi is out and at ease within the queer community but guarded with their Muslim mother, and the show handles that tension with warmth rather than melodrama. Widely noted as featuring one of the first nonbinary South Asian lead characters on a North American series, and with Baig among the first queer, nonbinary, Muslim actors to lead a Canadian primetime show, Sort Of ran for three seasons and earned critical acclaim.
