Theatre Gay / Queen

Theatre gay or theatre queen is a playful, affectionate term for an LGBTQ+ person, most often a gay man, whose passion for musical theater and theatrical performance is a core part of their identity. It draws on a long-documented connection between gay men and the stage, especially Broadway musicals, which offered acceptance and community when many other spaces did not. The archetype celebrates camp, big emotion, cast-album trivia, and shared cultural devotion. Many people embrace the label with pride rather than treating it as an insult, using it as shorthand for belonging to a distinctly queer corner of theater fandom.
