Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV)

Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) is observed each year on March 31 to celebrate transgender people and their achievements while raising awareness of ongoing discrimination and violence. Activist and psychotherapist Rachel Crandall-Crocker of Michigan founded it in 2009, wanting a day focused on celebrating living trans people and community joy. At the time, the main trans-centered observance was the Transgender Day of Remembrance, which mourns those lost to violence. Crandall-Crocker chose late March to keep the day distinct from both that observance and Pride Month. TDOV has since spread well beyond the United States and is now marked internationally with events, campaigns, and public recognition.
