Brokeback Mountain

Brokeback Mountain is a 2005 romantic drama directed by Ang Lee about the decades-long love between two men in the American West.

Brokeback Mountain is a 2005 American neo-Western romantic drama directed by Ang Lee, adapted from Annie Proulx's 1997 short story by screenwriters Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry. It follows ranch hands Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal), whose relationship begins one summer herding sheep and continues in secret across roughly twenty years of marriage, distance, and social pressure. The film won the Golden Lion at Venice and three Academy Awards, including Best Director. It reached mainstream audiences in a way few queer love stories had before and was later selected for the U.S. National Film Registry. It remains a landmark of LGBTQ+ cinema and a study of repression and longing.
