Christopher St.

Christopher Street runs through New York City's Greenwich Village and holds a central place in LGBTQ+ history. It is home to the Stonewall Inn at 53 Christopher Street, the gay bar where the 1969 Stonewall uprising became a turning point for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Across the street sits Christopher Park, part of the Stonewall National Monument, which holds George Segal's "Gay Liberation" sculpture of two same-sex couples. The area had long been a refuge for queer New Yorkers before 1969, and the street remains a living symbol of that history. The first Pride marches, then called Christopher Street Liberation Day, took their name from it.
