A drag daughter is a newer drag performer who has been mentored and taken under the wing of a more experienced performer known as their drag mother.
In drag culture, a drag daughter is a performer who has been mentored by an established artist, their drag mother. The elder guides them on makeup, costuming, stagecraft, and navigating nightlife, and the two often share a stage name to signal the bond. Groups of these relationships form drag families or "hauses" that pass down knowledge, aesthetic style, and community across generations, much like the house structures in ballroom culture. Reality shows such as RuPaul's Drag Race have made these family trees widely visible, with well-known mother-and-daughter pairings among their contestants. The relationships are chosen family as much as artistic lineage, offering support and belonging to performers who may lack it elsewhere.
