Fag Hag

Fag hag is gay slang for a heterosexual woman who associates mainly or exclusively with gay and bisexual men and is closely woven into gay male social life. The phrase carries a mixed charge. Some women embrace it as a badge of belonging, while others reject it as reductive or insulting. A common stereotype casts these women as seeking a substitute for romance with straight men, but many are already partnered with men or with women and simply value the friendships. Because it contains a reclaimed slur, the term lands differently depending on who uses it. The male counterpart is "fag stag," and in friendships between lesbians and gay men the gay man may be called a "dyke diva." Neutral options include naming the actual friendship or calling someone an ally.
