Fag Stag

Fag stag is gay slang for a heterosexual man who has close, platonic friendships with gay and bisexual men and spends much of his social life within gay male circles. It is the male counterpart to "fag hag," the term for a straight woman in the same role. The usage is fairly uncommon and mostly stays inside LGBTQ social settings. Like fag hag, it can read as affectionate camaraderie or as a reductive label, depending on who is speaking and the tone they bring. Because it builds on a reclaimed slur, its welcome varies by context, and many people simply prefer to describe the friendship directly or use the word ally.
