Ally

An ally is a person who supports LGBTQ+ people, their rights, and their equality. Allies are often cisgender and heterosexual, though people within the community can also be allies to identities other than their own. Being an ally goes beyond quiet acceptance. It means listening to LGBTQ+ voices, learning about their experiences, speaking up against homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia, and using one's position to support fair treatment. Organizations like PFLAG and the Human Rights Campaign describe allyship as active rather than passive. Many people see ally as something demonstrated through ongoing action rather than a fixed label a person simply claims for themselves.
