Biphobia

Biphobia is prejudice, fear, discrimination, or hostility directed at bisexual people and bisexuality itself. It shows up in both straight and LGBTQ+ spaces, often through assumptions that bisexuality is just a phase, a bid for attention, or a stop on the way to being "really" gay or straight. The Bisexual Resource Center also frames biphobia as mislabeling bi+ people as gay, lesbian, or straight even after they come out. Biphobia fuels bi erasure, the tendency to overlook or deny that bisexual people exist, which in turn limits bi-inclusive resources. Advocacy groups like the Human Rights Campaign link this erasure to real health disparities, with bisexual people reporting higher rates of depression and anxiety than their gay, lesbian, or straight peers.
