Bi Erasure
Bi erasure is the tendency to ignore, deny, or explain away the existence and legitimacy of bisexuality.
Bi erasure, also called bisexual invisibility, is the tendency to ignore, remove, falsify, or re-explain evidence of bisexuality in history, media, academia, and everyday life. GLAAD describes it as a pervasive problem in which the existence or legitimacy of bisexuality is questioned or denied. It happens in both straight and LGBTQ+ spaces, often through the assumption that a bi person in a same-sex relationship is "really" gay and one in a different-sex relationship is "really" straight. In its most extreme form it holds that bisexuality does not exist at all. This erasure is a form of biphobia, and researchers link it to the elevated rates of depression, anxiety, and isolation many bi people report.
