Gaymer
Gaymer is a portmanteau of "gay" and "gamer" for LGBTQ+ people who play video games and the community they have built around that shared identity.
Gaymer blends "gay" and "gamer" and works as an umbrella term for LGBTQ+ people with an active interest in video games, as well as the wider community they have built. Gaymers have created strong spaces online and in person, from local nonprofits and Discord servers to conventions like GaymerX, a gathering that centers queer gamers, developers, and conversations about identity and representation. Representation of LGBTQ+ characters and stories in games has grown considerably, though homophobia and transphobia within parts of gaming culture remain a real challenge. The label lets people claim both identities at once without treating either as an afterthought.
