Gender Gifted

Gender gifted is an affirming term some parents, educators, and clinicians use for gender-nonconforming, gender-expansive, or transgender children and youth. It reframes a child's exploration of gender as a strength and a form of insight rather than a deficit, confusion, or disorder. The language grew out of gender-affirming care and supportive parenting communities as an alternative to clinical or pathologizing words. It is not a formal medical diagnosis or an identity label a person claims for themselves. Instead it is a lens: a way for adults to honor a child's authentic sense of self while offering support.
