Hard Limits
In BDSM, hard limits are the activities a person absolutely refuses to do, non-negotiable boundaries that partners must respect at all times.
In BDSM and kink, hard limits are the acts a person will not do under any circumstances. They are firm, non-negotiable boundaries set during the negotiation that responsible partners have before any scene. Hard limits differ from soft limits, which are things a person is unsure about or might try under the right conditions. A limit can be physical, emotional, or situational, and no one owes an explanation for having one. Naming limits clearly is a core part of the safe, sane, and consensual foundation of kink. Crossing a stated hard limit is not part of the play. It is a serious violation of consent and trust.
