Robin Byrd Show, The
The Robin Byrd Show was a long-running New York City public-access cable program that aired adult content and celebrated performers of all genders and sexualities.
The Robin Byrd Show was a leased-access cable television program hosted by Robin Byrd in New York City from 1977 to 1998. Airing on Manhattan Cable's Channel J and later Channel 35, it featured adult film stars, exotic dancers, and interviews, all framed by Byrd's low-budget, sex-positive style and her signature crocheted bikini. Its call-in format and openness to queer and gender-diverse performers made it a beloved late-night institution and a piece of New York's LGBTQ+ cultural memory. The show closed each episode with Byrd's theme song 'Bang Your Box.' It was parodied on Saturday Night Live in the late 1990s and revisited in the 2026 HBO documentary Bang My Box.
