Robin Byrd

Robin Byrd, born in New York City in 1957, is an actress and television host who became a fixture of the city's queer nightlife culture. After appearing in 1970s adult films, including Debbie Does Dallas, she began hosting a leased-access cable program that she renamed The Robin Byrd Show in 1977. Known for her crocheted bikini and warm, playful manner, she welcomed adult performers and exotic dancers of every gender and sexuality, producing more than 600 broadcasts. Byrd was an early voice for sex positivity and LGBTQ+ acceptance during the AIDS era. Her life and career are chronicled in the 2026 HBO documentary Bang My Box: The Robin Byrd Story.
