Social Justice
Social justice is the pursuit of a fair distribution of rights, opportunities, and resources, alongside the dismantling of systems of oppression.
Social justice is the work of building a society where rights, opportunities, and resources are shared fairly, and where systems of oppression based on race, gender, sexuality, class, and disability are challenged and dismantled. LGBTQ+ liberation is tied closely to this broader project. Queer people who are also people of color, poor, disabled, or undocumented often face several forms of discrimination at once, and each one compounds the others. A social justice approach argues that LGBTQ+ equality cannot be fully reached in isolation, because the same structures that produce homophobia and transphobia also produce racism and economic inequality. Progress on one front depends on progress across all of them.
