Sunset Lesbian Flag
The Sunset Lesbian Flag is a seven-stripe pride flag in shades of orange, white, and pink that has become the most widely used symbol for lesbian identity.
The Sunset Lesbian Flag was designed in 2018 by Emily Gwen, a nonbinary lesbian blogger on Tumblr. It reworks an earlier seven-stripe "lipstick" lesbian flag into a warm gradient that runs from deep orange at the top through white in the middle to shades of pink at the bottom, which is where the "sunset" nickname comes from. According to Gwen, the colors carry meanings such as gender nonconformity, independence, community, unique relationships to womanhood, serenity and peace, love and sex, and femininity. A five-stripe version is also common. Because earlier lesbian flags carried disputed histories, this design spread quickly online and is now the most widely recognized flag representing lesbians.
