Swish / Swishy

Swish and swishy are colloquial terms describing an effeminate or camp manner in gay men, often marked by fluid body language, expressive gestures, or a lively walk. The word emerged in pre-Stonewall gay male communities and was long used as a slur to shame men who did not conform to masculine norms. Many LGBTQ+ people have since reclaimed it with humor and affection as a celebration of femininity and queer expression, though it can still sting when used to belittle.
