Throuple

A throuple, a blend of "three" and "couple," is a romantic relationship involving three people who share committed emotional and often sexual bonds with one another. It is a form of polyamory, sometimes also called a triad. In a balanced throuple each person is connected to both partners rather than one person simply dating two others separately. Some throuples are open, agreeing that partners may date or have sex outside the three, while others are closed, meaning all romantic and sexual connection stays within the group, a setup known as polyfidelity or a closed triad. Throuples can involve any mix of genders and orientations. The term has become more widely used as public awareness of non-monogamous relationships has grown.
