Tongue Pop

A tongue pop is a crisp popping or clicking sound made by pressing the tongue against the roof of the mouth and pulling it away quickly. In drag and queer culture it works as punctuation, an audible exclamation point that signals fierceness, agreement, sass, or approval. The gesture became a signature move for drag performer Alyssa Edwards on RuPaul's Drag Race, who turned it into a personal catchphrase and helped spread it well beyond the show. It now appears widely across social media and everyday queer conversation. Functionally it acts like a spoken emoji, adding flavor and timing to a moment without needing a single word.
