Transmasculine / Transmasc

Transmasculine, often shortened to transmasc, is an umbrella term for people who were assigned female at birth and who identify with masculinity or a masculine gender expression. It covers trans men as well as nonbinary and gender-fluid people who lean masculine but may not identify fully as men. Because it is broad, the term is useful for someone still exploring their identity, and it is common in medical, research, and advocacy settings for its inclusiveness. Transmasculine people may or may not pursue hormone therapy, surgery, or any medical steps, and none of these are required to claim the term. Experiences within the transmasculine community vary widely from person to person.
