Hormone Therapy / HRT
Hormone therapy is gender-affirming medical care in which a person takes estrogen or testosterone to bring their body's characteristics into line with their gender identity.
Hormone therapy, also called gender-affirming hormone therapy or hormone replacement therapy (HRT), is a medical treatment that uses hormones to help align a person's physical characteristics with their gender identity. Feminizing therapy for trans women and transfeminine people typically combines estrogen with a testosterone blocker, encouraging breast growth, softer skin, and fat redistribution. Masculinizing therapy for trans men and transmasculine people uses testosterone, which deepens the voice, prompts facial and body hair, and increases muscle mass. It is provided under medical supervision with periodic monitoring of health markers. For many people it is a central part of transition and is linked to meaningful improvements in well-being and reductions in gender dysphoria.
