Transvestite

Transvestite is an older term for a person who wears clothing typically associated with another gender. It was coined by physician Magnus Hirschfeld in 1910 and was long used in medical settings, often framing cross-dressing as a disorder. Today the term is considered outdated and can be offensive, especially when applied to transgender people, who are a distinct group. Style guides such as AP and GLAAD recommend cross-dresser instead, a term created within the community to describe wearing gender-nonconforming clothing without necessarily identifying as another gender. In parts of Latin America, the related word travesti has a separate cultural meaning and has been reclaimed as a gender identity by some.
