Everyone Else
"Everyone else" is an informal phrase some LGBTQ+ people use for the straight and cisgender majority, the world outside their own community.
"Everyone else" is a casual, in-group phrase that some LGBTQ+ people use to describe the straight and cisgender majority: the wider world that queer spaces exist alongside. It is not a formal term or an identity label, and its meaning shifts with context. The phrase captures the everyday experience of moving between spaces built for and by queer people and spaces designed mostly for people who are not. Used warmly, it names a shared sense of belonging within a community; used pointedly, it can mark the distance between insider and outsider. Because it is colloquial rather than technical, it carries no fixed definition and is best understood from how a speaker uses it.
