Monogamy

Monogamy is a relationship structure in which a person commits to one romantic or sexual partner at a time, with an understanding of mutual exclusivity. It is the dominant model in most Western cultures and is built into how marriage is legally defined. Within LGBTQ+ communities, monogamy exists alongside a wide range of other arrangements, including open relationships, polyamory, and relationship anarchy, part of a broader queer willingness to question inherited norms about how relationships should look. Many LGBTQ+ people choose monogamy and find deep meaning in it. Others find it does not fit their needs or values. Both choices are valid.
