Ovah

"Ovah" (a stylized spelling of "over") is a term from ballroom and Black queer culture used to praise something as so fabulous, so completely realized, that it is over the top. It signals ultimate approval, often for a stunning performance, a look, or a moment on the runway. The word carries admiration and a touch of drama, celebrating excellence without reservation. Like much ballroom vocabulary, "ovah" has spread into wider queer and mainstream use through voguing culture and shows like Pose and RuPaul's Drag Race, which brought decades of ballroom language to a broader audience.
