Queer Platonic Relationship (QPR)

A queer platonic relationship, or QPR, is a committed and deeply intimate bond that does not fit the standard categories of either friendship or romantic partnership. The connection is close and central to the people in it, but it is not defined by romance or sex in the conventional sense. QPRs push back against the idea that romantic love automatically ranks above every other form of connection. The term grew mainly out of aromantic and asexual communities, where people often build their most important relationships in ways that do not match traditional scripts. Partners sometimes call each other a 'zucchini.' Each QPR is shaped by the specific people involved, so no two look exactly alike.
