T-Slur

The T-slur refers to the word "tr*nny," a derogatory term used to demean transgender people, most often trans women. GLAAD advises that it should always be characterized as a bigoted slur and never used to refer to transgender people, including in direct quotes, unless a trans person is using it about themselves in a reclaimed way. Some activists attempted to reappropriate it with pride, but that effort largely did not hold because the word stayed in active use as an insult. Its history is tied to abuse and dehumanization, which is why most LGBTQ+ organizations treat it as off-limits for outside use.
