Tranny

Tranny is a slur historically used to express contempt for transgender people, most often transgender women. GLAAD characterizes it as a bigoted slur and advises that it should not be used to refer to trans people, even in direct quotes, unless a trans person is using it about themselves in a reclaimed way. Some trans and gender-nonconforming people have tried to reclaim the word for personal use, but as writer Roz Kaveney noted, reappropriation largely "didn't take" because of its ongoing use as abuse. The word has long been tied to mockery, dehumanization, and violence, which is why major LGBTQ+ organizations warn against it.
