Twenty-Four Seven / 24-Hour Girl

Twenty-Four Seven (24/7) or 24-Hour Girl is an older, community term describing a transgender woman who lives full-time in her gender, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as opposed to presenting only part-time. The phrase surfaced in earlier trans and crossdressing communities where 'full-time' living was a recognized milestone of social transition. Contemporary trans discourse has largely moved away from language implying that a part-time or in-progress expression is less real. The current understanding is that a person's gender identity is valid regardless of how, where, or how often they express it, so the term now reads as dated even though it once carried pride.
