Enby

Enby (pronounced EN-bee) is the phonetic spelling of "NB," the abbreviation for non-binary. It was coined by non-binary people as an affectionate, easy-to-say word for someone whose gender is not simply man or woman. Part of why the spelled-out version caught on is that the initialism NB already had another common use standing for non-Black, so many non-binary people prefer "enby" to avoid confusion. The term is now standard in LGBTQ+ online spaces and appears in dictionaries including Cambridge and the Oxford English Dictionary. Many use it as a noun ("I'm an enby") and it has spawned casual phrases like "enby culture." Some non-binary people love it, while others simply prefer non-binary.
