Medical Transition
Medical transition is the use of gender-affirming medical care, such as hormone therapy or surgery, to bring a person's body into alignment with their gender identity.
Medical transition refers to the medical steps some transgender and non-binary people take to align their bodies with their gender identity. It can include hormone therapy, puberty-delaying medication, surgeries, and other procedures, chosen based on a person's age, health, goals, and access. Major medical associations recognize this care, often called gender-affirming or transition-related care, as medically necessary for many people who experience gender dysphoria. Medical transition is only one part of transition, which can also be social (name, pronouns, presentation) or legal (documents). Not every transgender person wants or pursues medical steps, and there is no single required path. Informed consent and access remain central issues in ongoing debates over transgender healthcare.
