Personal Pronouns

Personal pronouns are the words used to refer to someone in place of their name, such as he/him, she/her, they/them, or neopronouns like ze/zir. Sharing and honoring them is a core part of affirming LGBTQ+ spaces, especially for transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people, since a person's pronouns cannot always be assumed from how they look. The practice of stating pronouns in introductions, email signatures, and social media bios has grown as a way to make this routine for everyone. Doing so eases the burden that otherwise falls on trans and non-binary people to keep correcting others, and using someone's stated pronouns is a simple, meaningful sign of respect.
