Queerplatonic Relationships
Committed, intimate relationships that live in the space between deep friendship and conventional romance, without needing to be sexual or romantic.
Queerplatonic relationships (QPRs) are committed bonds that deliberately defy the usual relationship categories, mixing elements of friendship, romance, and sometimes physical intimacy in ways that resist easy labels. What defines them is closeness and commitment rather than romance or sex specifically. QPRs reject the hierarchy that places romantic love above all other connections, recognizing that a non-romantic bond can be just as central and lasting. The term comes largely from aromantic and asexual communities, where people often organize their lives around relationships that do not follow traditional scripts. People may call a partner a 'queerplatonic partner' (QPP) or a 'zucchini,' and use 'squish' for a strong platonic attraction. Every QPR is shaped by the specific people in it.
