Rainbow Family

A rainbow family is a family headed by one or more LGBTQ+ parents. That can look like two mothers or two fathers, a single queer parent, or a family that includes a transgender or nonbinary parent. Rainbow families build their households in many ways, including adoption, fostering, surrogacy, donor conception, co-parenting arrangements, and children from previous relationships. The term is used widely across Europe, Australia, and other regions as a warm, umbrella label that centers the family's identity rather than any one route to parenthood. It reflects a simple point: love and commitment, rather than any specific biological structure, are what make a family. Support groups and advocacy organizations often use it to build community and push for equal parenting rights.
