Transparent
Transparent is an award-winning American comedy-drama series (2014 to 2019) about a Los Angeles family whose parent comes out as a transgender woman named Maura.
Transparent is an American comedy-drama created by Joey Soloway for Amazon Studios, premiering in 2014. It follows the Pfefferman family after their parent (played by Jeffrey Tambor) comes out as a trans woman named Maura, weaving in questions of gender identity, sexuality, and Jewish family life. The show was a critical milestone, winning Golden Globe and Emmy awards and becoming the first streaming series to win a major TV award. It helped bring transgender stories to a wide mainstream audience. It also drew serious criticism for casting a cisgender man in a trans lead role, a debate that shaped later conversations about authentic trans casting. The series ended in 2019 with a musical finale.
