Tryke
Tryke is a colloquial blend of 'trans' and 'dyke' used by some transgender women and trans feminine people who identify as lesbians or within dyke community.
Tryke is a colloquial blend of 'trans' and 'dyke.' It describes a transgender person, usually a trans woman or trans feminine individual, who identifies as a lesbian or as part of dyke community. The word borrows the reclaimed pride of 'dyke,' a slur that lesbians took back as an affirming self-label beginning in the 1970s, and extends it to trans women who have long been part of lesbian and feminist spaces. Like 'dyke,' it is self-referential and community-specific: it carries warmth when claimed by the people it names, and it is generally not a label to apply to someone else. Usage is niche and most at home inside queer community itself.
