LGBTQIA2+
LGBTQIA2+ is an expanded community acronym that names Two-Spirit people and uses a plus sign to include every other identity not spelled out.
LGBTQIA2+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual or Agender, and Two-Spirit, with a plus sign gathering in all additional sexual orientations and gender identities. Organizations committed to both intersectionality and Indigenous inclusion increasingly use this longer form. The 2 marks Two-Spirit, a term rooted in some Native North American cultures for people who fill a traditional third-gender role, and the plus keeps the acronym open rather than exhaustive. The Canadian government uses a closely related version, 2SLGBTQI+. The wording reflects an ongoing community conversation about honoring diversity without reducing identity to an ever-longer string of letters.
