MTF
MTF is an abbreviation for male-to-female, describing a transgender woman or a person assigned male at birth who transitions in a feminine direction.
MTF stands for male-to-female. It describes a person assigned male at birth who identifies as a woman or transitions in a feminine direction. The term comes from older clinical language that framed transition as movement from one sex to another. Today many people prefer transgender woman or trans woman, which center a woman's identity rather than a starting point she has moved away from. MTF and the parallel FTM (female-to-male) still appear in medical settings, community spaces, and personal self-description, and some people use MTF comfortably for themselves. As always, follow the words each person chooses for their own experience.
